December Partner Letter 2016

Dear Partner,

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, God says, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all mankind …and every one who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

On April 14, 1912, an iceberg struck the Titanic and it began to sink.  The widowed Reverend John Harper managed to get his daughter and nurse into the eleventh lifeboat.  He kissed his daughter and told her that he’d see her again someday.
According to later reports many saw him wearing a life jacket, helping people into lifeboats. He yelled, “Women, children, and the unsaved into lifeboats.” Soon afterward the ship began to split apart, throwing people into the bitterly cold water.
Reverend Harper was seen swimming from person to person, leading them to Jesus before they slipped beneath the water. He came up to one young man who was very near shock. Reverend Harper tried to speak to him, but he resisted, so he swam away to minister to others. When he finally came back to the young man, Reverend Harper took off his life jacket. He fastened it around the man, saying, “You need this more than I do.” One more time he witnessed to the young man, who finally accepted the gift of salvation that the persistent preacher offered.
Of the 1,528 persons who ended up in the water that night, the lifeboats rescued only six. That young man was one of them. At a survivors meeting four years later, he stood up and told his story.  “Alone in the night with two miles of water under me, I cried to Christ to save me. I am John Harper’s last convert.”  He recalled the last words John Harper said before going under: “Believe on the name of the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.”
